Royal Harbor Update-March 17, 2018

After the Annual meeting, there were several people interested in being on the East Naples Taxing district. This is the gov body that recommends improvements etc to the waterways and canals in Royal Harbor and Oyster Bay. I know some have applied and hopef ully they will kick start the removal of the rocks in our canals. Just so you all understand what we are talking about here are some photos I took when the back hoe was here last time and began removing some of the rocks. As you can see these are Big. The pieces we see here were broken off larger rocks. I am assuming these are the parts that were sticking up in the canal. When your boat hits this you know it. Many have ruined props and running gear and busted and cracked keels. To be fair, the rocks were always there since the beginning of the canals but last time the objective was to have them removed.

There are still things being repaired after the Hurricane. Signs in the city are still on backorder and by the summer we should have them all up and in the right places. This included stop signs, street signs and information signs. This from the city.  Our Welcome to Royal Harbor sign just south of Jewel Box on Sandpiper, by Jim and Nan Morris’s house, should be up this next week.

As you drive around you can see sea walls still caved in, trees or stumps still sticking up, missing signage, docks in poor repair and some blue tarps on roofs. The dock people I have talked to told me they are at least 6 months out on scheduled work. Sign people all over town are overwhelmed as you might have noticed by the many blown out signs.

This city is finalizing its street repair work and budget for this year. Since the hurricane, some of their items have had to be pushed back. I am not sure at this time what we might get in Royal Harbor.

If you have driven out 41 East you can see all the new development underway. Every week another large parcel of woods has been leveled for something. The Parcel just before the shopping center and McDonalds that was just leveled is going to be a new Hotel complex. On down is a new O’Reilley’s Auto Parts store next to Autozone and then it just keeps going with new businesses and housing all the way to 951.
